The Plough Arts Centre - Events for February 2010

Steve Knightley
Along with being one half of Show of Hands, Steve Knightley is also enjoying success as a solo artist. In June 2007 he released the understated but powerful Cruel River, his first solo album in seven years and in May 09 he released Track of Words-Retraced, so called as it subtly revisits and deconstructs his more mainstream-sounding album of the same name from a decade ago. He is renowned for his strong, trademark narrative songs which reflect the escapades, hopes and fears not only of people in his native West Country but beyond and he pulls no punches when writing highly literate songs about bigger, global issues. Steve is accompanied on this tour by young singer-songwriter Jenna who already has a wealth of recording and touring experience behind her. Her original songs are very much inspired by the sea, surf and landscape of her native North Devon and accompanying herself on piano and guitar, she possesses an astonishingly mature voice and stage presence. Her second album ‘Brother’ is out now.
"Staggering maturity, winning delivery, and an abundance of natural talent. An irresistible example of superior acoustic music" Daily Telegraph

Unpacked Theatre present Jumping Mouse
Jump on the second bus – the driver’s saved you a seat. Here’s Martin, who’s having a bad day (it’s tough being 9 ½). Come with him and meet a bullfrog blues band, a clapped-out bison, a forgetful wolf... and a very unusual little mouse, who’s about to have a very big adventure. Unpacked use live music and songs, puppetry, high-octane physicality and bits of a London bus to tell a magical story about growing up, adapted from a well-loved Native American folktale. Perfect for anyone over 4yrs old.

Courtney’s 12th album and his debut release on his own label Destin-e World, not only pays tribute to the first great saxophone star Sidney Bechet, but also marks several new forays into sound for the groundbreaking Jazz Warrior.
