Croyde Bay

Croyde dates back to pre-Saxon times; it is one of the prettiest villages in Devon, due to its many thatched cottages and proximity to both countryside and sea. Today, Croyde is extremely popular with surfers, who come from far and wide to experience its awesome waves. Also very near are Woolacombe sands which links to Putsborough, Georgeham and Braunton. So there are three fantastic sandy beaches to choose from, and you can stay/eat in a variety of establishments in the area, and take part in many outdoor activities.

Braunton Burrows is the largest sand dune system in the UK. Its uniqueness and biodiversity is recognised in its designation as both a National Nature Reserve and as a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Activities

Croyde beach is privately owned and has lifeguard patrols between May and September. Croyde is one of the best beach breaks for surfing, in the UK, and produces hollow barrelling waves at low tide, in the right conditions; however, this is primarily a wave for experienced surfers. Whereas neighbouring Saunton Sands boasts one of the best longboard waves in the country, and the beach stretches for miles, as does Croyde and other nearby beaches, Putsborough and Woolacombe. Cycling, horse riding, golf and tennis are also available locally, and of course there are plenty of places from which to hire water-sports equipment. Baggy Point and the adjoining National Trust land offers a combination of delightful views with excellent walks.

Food & Drink

This picture book village has everything to offer in the way of refreshments, from locally made ice cream and cream teas, to lunch in a thatched pub and a choice of evening dining. Georgeham is a few minutes away from Croyde and also offers great places to eat such as the Lower House and The Rock.

Accommodation

There is plenty of variety in holiday accommodation in and around Croyde to suit all budgets, from luxury apartments to campsites. Many of the Self catering, B&Bs, Hotels, Guest Houses and a few campsites are open all year, so you can visit the Golden Coast at anytime.

Travel

Almost everything you would want to do in a day, you can do on foot, in Croyde, so just grab your beach bag and leave the car behind. For those not staying in the village itself, the local bus route includes Croyde, so you can relax and enjoy a picturesque journey and a carefree day at the beach. By using the bus service you can escape from traffic jams and car park prices.
